Since moving to a new state, I've had to find new radio stations to listen to. Basically I just went looking for the Nebraska equivalent of the ones I liked in Missouri (FYI, 100.7 in North Platte is 98.9 in Kansas City).
I love music in general. I'll listen to just about anything. My iTunes is an eclectic mess of German metal, old-school rock, anime theme songs, pop, punk, country (have I mentioned this before? This list sounds familiar...)
Anyway, while searching radio waves and playing around on the internet as I so often do, I have found a ton of cool songs that I love to listen to. Today I'm going to share four awesome tracks with you guys. You may or may not have heard these already, some are old and some are new. Click the links to view music videos, or at least pull up the vid so you can listen while you read (unfortunately, you may have to skip ads at the beginning).
First up is something fairly new; I've only heard it on the radio twice and I had to have it. I am a huge fan of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland stories and the many deeper meanings hidden in the wacky tales. I am always excited to see a reference to Alice in things like music and anime, and I really love how EC uses it here to describe an abusive relationship and the corruption of power. How often we tend to continue down a path we know has no good end (our rabbit holes) because we truly hope something good can still come.
Next is a personal favorite, dear to my heart as wordsmith myself. I love language and the incredible, sometimes hilarious, ways we can use it. Hung Up is a fantastic example, using what we think of as sexual innuendos to convey actual feelings of affection. The very first time I heard it played, I giggled. It can still make me smile today.
This is possibly one of the most empowering songs I've heard in a long time. If I ever need a boost, I pull out this and Katy Perry's Roar. Brave reminds us that there is light, and love, and courage inside all of us. We just have to be willing to show it! If this song doesn't brighten your day, I'm not sure what will. If you're feeling down right now, I strongly encourage you to give it a listen.
Quick warning - this is NOT censored, there IS bad language in this song. If that bothers you or you're in a place where it's not appropriate to listen to this, then don't. If you're ok with it, and you're on your own, go for it!
Remember when this song was a joke? But it became a sensation basically overnight and it just never stops being hilarious and awesome! I'm a fan of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis anyway, but this little debut of theirs will always be my favorite. I love when I find an extra twenty laying around and I can start singing it (and maybe hit Goodwill later). But seriously, this and White Walls - go give 'em a listen.
