I play the 360 version, so I can't exactly tell you how anything works on the PC or PS3. However, while the controls may be different, I'm betting it's the same basic setup, and I wanna talk more about the concept of this game anyway.
Here's the story: You are one of several human test subjects at a facility that generates random and increasingly difficult (and deadly) trials to test their new product - the portal gun. A portal gun does exactly what it sounds like - shoot one spot, open a hole; shoot another spot, open a hole that links to the first one. At the start of each test you must use the gun to solve puzzles that will get you to the end alive.
You do, in the end, finish all tests and GLaDOS, tired of you outwitting her and trashing the facility, finally lets you leave.
Before I move on, can I just talk about GLaDOS' voice actress for a bit? GLaDOS is voiced by the incredible Ellen McLain. She even sings the ending credit songs in both games (available on iTunes - I bought "Want You Gone" the second I heard it!). With our without the autotune-esque filter they use to make GLaDOS sound more robotic, McLain does an amazing job in this role. I could talk about it more, but there's still more game to talk about, so we need to move on.
My roommate and I recently - FINALLY - finished the co-op mode after much dispute, confusion, and shenanigans. Overall, it was a blast. The game is great for people like us who love problem-solving. If that's what you're into, get Portal 2. Get it right now.
I think all that's left to say is how much I love this game no matter how many times I am forced to quit or caught cussing at the TV. If you want to know anything else about it, or you notice that I left something out, please comment or contact me. I'd love to here from you! I also need ideas for reviews. Very rarely do I go to movies these days, and I have less time for reading, so I'm down to my only other hobby - games. Unless you guys would like to see anime reviews? Maybe?
I think I finally have all my Disney and London photos ready, so for the next couple of weeks I hope to share highlights of those trips with you guys. Until then, I'll see you all later!
